The wire

265 days.. That’s how long it took for to finish the series The wire starting on April 13th. There was a desert like period between season one and two somewhat during summer. That’s still faster than the original airing from 2002 to 2006.

It took me two turns to get started with it. The first attempt died in honor somewhere back in 2009 - I didn’t make it further than a couple of opening episodes. It just didn’t catch me.

The second try was more successful and I finally understood how the series was meant to be watched.

There is/was still the hype about it, which I don’t understand either. The series clearly has its moments. Every time when I asked somebody with “experience” how close it would be to reality, I’ve been assured it’s supposed to be quite close. And this you can actually feel when you watch it. You simply buy what’s happening there. This tight binding to reality on the other hand limits the possible story. It might have been outstanding in its time, but it’s no match compared to “Breaking Bad” or “Game of thrones” when it comes to entertainment.

In total: still worth watching.
