Receipes¶
As the recent shutdown of the google reader should have shown to many people: depending on a private third party always carries the risk of depending too much on their service. Private companies tend to do stupid things, when it’s all about making profit. So it was with the shutdown of the google reader (which is actually coming 1st July, I believe).
Since I use a local RSS reader to follow other services, I wasn’t really affected by that decision. Though it involves a bit more struggle from my side to keep it running and to configure it and I only can assume that level of comfort people are loosing. And I’m happy, that I’m not on that level and don’t have to complain and find myself actually on the other side.
One thing that actually hit me without a warning was, what Twitter now has shutdown their Twitter Api version 1. At the 11th. June: off. For your info: I used that API to get the RSS feeds from OsloPolitiops . Since Twitter in its gracefulness decided this is not longer needed, I stopped receiving updates for Oslopolitimoro. After a couple of days silence in that channel, I found out about it need found a workaround).
But the main lesson here is: If you don’t do it yourself, don’t be surprised if it’s suddenly not working anymore m-|.
