[This article of how Broadcom ran ethernet over barbed wire](http://www.sigcon.com/Pubs/edn/SoGoodBarbedWire.htm) shows nicely the different between perceived quality and the actual underlying solution.

Basically: It looks impressive, it's not. Good marketing, though.
