William Fitzsimmons/Gold in the Shadow¶
First there were like two, three weeks without music. Now I’m drowning in it. I could just take it slow. Maybe skip another week or so. But this weeks I was really looking forward to to show you: the American William Fitzsimmons).
He’s just another victim of my nightly web-adventures on the web and showed up on the radar when I was listening to something else. I’m not sure what made me trying one of his songs, but: Oh boy - I do certainly not regret it.
I’ve just randomly picked up one of the albums. Not the first one and neither the last one. The opening was - unexpected. Do you know the weird feeling? The feeling you get when for example a good friends recommends you some music, maybe a single song you should listen to. And you listen to it and you start wondering: Why am I listening to this? Shouldn’t he (or she) know that this isn’t something I like to listen to? And then you try to find a nice, polite way out of that situation.
That was how I felt during the first listening. Weird.
And then I went on. I kept it playing. After two or three songs the music changed. It started to make sense. With the other albums I followed through and continued listening. The order of albums didn’t matter. Somehow they are all playing together. They all tell their own stories. Together they tell you an even bigger tale. And I started again from the beginning. And suddenly it make sense.
These are stories. That’s why you’re left at the end alone. The songs in the album teach you a life. They teach you the up and down. You’re left with sadness, melancholy and loneliness. But also with joy, happiness and love. It’s all balanced out. Tipping up and down.
This album is the last one currently out from William Fitzsimmons. But certainly not the last one. His whole history screams for more at the top of its lungs.
And I’m gonna wait for it. Patiently.
