Evening Hymns/Spirit Guides¶
Perfect. Simply perfect. The video to the song *Dead Deer* from Evening Hymns was just wonderful enough to make me get a hand on the CD as well. Blindly shopped. Just guessed. And nothing to regret.
I like getting CD Spirit Guides in the mail. Usually I forgot which one I ordered or when. When one of those orders than arrives, I’m more than happy and looking forward to listen to it.
This was is the case here. Of course. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but didn’t guess it would be that good. These Canadians are opening quite a collection of bottles with sounds on this album. As longer you go through the music, as more and more differentiated sounds you discover. One track mostly contains rain-weather (which of course isn’t that new and special, but in the context of the whole album it makes perfectly sense) and helps fading the album slowing out and putting it to a conclusive finish. There are parallels to Fleet Foxes or A bear that wasn’t, but just for a couple of seconds. Very quickly you’ll discover that Evening Hymns will take you with them on a tour of their own. And you will certainly not be left in the rain.
That shouldn’t stop you from playing it again and again and again…
Since December 2011 it became a bit quiet on their blog, but now in June it’s obvious why: There’s a new record coming and the first song Arrows is available on their homepage as well.
